President's Tip of the Week

Judging Criteria for February 5th

As our prospective contestants prepare their speeches, it might be helpful to know what the judging criteria will be. Here is that information for you to take into consideration as you prepare:

International Speech Contest

Content (50%):

  • Speech Development (structure, opening, body, support material): 0-20 points
  • Effectiveness (achievement of purpose, interest, reception): 0-15 points
  • Speech Value (ideas, logic, original thought): 0-15 points

Delivery (30%):

  • Physical (appearance, body language): 0-10 points
  • Voice (flexibility, volume): 0-10 points
  • Manner (directness, assurance, enthusiasm): 0-10 points
  • Language (20%):
  • Appropriateness (to speech purpose and audience): 0-10 points
  • Correctness (grammar, pronunciation, word selection): 0-10 points

Table Topics Contest

  • Speech Development (opening, body, close, organization, smoothness): 0-30 points
  • Effectiveness (logic, directness, enthusiasm, achievement of purpose, audience response): 0-25 points
  • Physical (appearance, body language): 0-15 points
  • Voice (flexibility, volume): 0-15 points
  • Language (appropriate to speech, purpose and audience, good grammar, pronunciation and word selection): 0-15 points
